My children absolutely love constructing their own meals and anything they can create makes them even more excited so the toppings are essential as well as the sauces!
These are great on the BBQ as well for the summer and are super quick and easy to serve up and so much better than anything shop bought!
Ingredients
- 400g mince beef
- 1 small red onion (plus a little extra for topping)
- 1 tsp mixed herbs
- 1 slice bread (made into breadcrumbs)
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- burger buns (we like the brioche ones)
- Toppings
- cheese (optional for putting on top)
- red onion rings
- shredded iceberg lettuce
- finely sliced tomato
- jalepenos (if you like a kick)
Method
- Finely chop the red onion as small as possible
- Pop your slice of bread into the Nutribullet or Thermomix or whatever processor you have and make into breadcrumbs
- Put all the ingredients into a mixing bowl
- With clean hands mix all the ingredients together and make into large patties
- Heat a little olive oil in the pan and cook the burgers until they are nicely browned on either side
- Pop them into the oven with a slice of cheddar cheese and take out when melted
- While the cheese is melting fry some red onion rings in a pan until golden brown (for the toppings)
- Finely shred some crisp fresh iceberg lettuce
- Slice a fresh red tomato
- I also serve it with jalepenos (as Harry likes a kick) and a large pickle
- We always add some good old tomato ketchup and some American mustard
